Crevillente - Alicante Province
Town in the Vega Baja

Crevillente is a small town in the Vega Baja area of Alicante located at the foot of the La Sierra Crevillente mountain range. The town is a mixture of Moorish and Christian architecture and even retains many cave dwellings The climate is one of the driest in Spain with mild winters and summer temperatures rising to a maximum of 37C.
The main industry of Crevillente town is carpet manufacture, which can trace its roots back to the middle ages; here you will find many a bargain in the factory shop outlets.
The area is predominantly a farming region with vineyards, citrus orchards, figs, dates, almonds, cotton and a variety of vegetables. In the mountain range is the San Cayetano natural park with its extensive pine forests and natural habitat. Located in the plain below Crevillente is the Laguna del Hondo, which is an important ecological area. situated alongside the Mediterranean motorway between Elche and Orihuela and a drive of approximately 15 minutes drive from Mediterranean sea at Torrevieja.
The surrounding countryside is made up of rugged hills and valleys. The airport of Alicante is 30 kilometres away.
In Crevillente there are several places in which it is worth the trouble to stop; among them the MUNICIPAL MUSEUM "MARIANO BENLLIURE", the only museum dedicated to this Valencian artist of international reputation. The museum is installed in the crypt of the Church of Our Lady of Bethlehem, constructed in the eighteenth century. In addition in an annexed building is a collection of stucco sketches corresponding to the sculptures scattered in many places, such as in the Pantheon of Canalejas, the monument to Ramon and Cajal or the one of Simón Bolivar in Panama.
Another museum the MUNICIPAL ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
, features the evolution from the Superior Palaeolithic to the Islamic Epoch. This museum is in the work of the architect Juan Vidal Branches constructed in 1927.
