Aledo is a small village situated in the mountains of the Sierra de Espuña inland from Totana, it can be reached by a beautiful winding road from the town of Totana, going past the impressive sanctuary of Santa Eulalia. There are only 941 inhabitants in this friendly village.
Surroundings
The surrounding natural landscape of the Espuña Mountain is of interest and the tube shape excavated rock, El Estrecho de la Agualeja as well as the Cave of the Mauta, in the head of the Boulevard of the Mills are worth a visit. The municipal district includes: Las Canales, Patalache, Noniai and Los Allozos.
The places of greatest interest to visit are the Artistic Historical Setting and the Arabic Tower or Calahorra, the Arab wall remains and the Church of Santa Maria de la Real, where the little streets and the walled zone are typical.
The articles made of esparto and the potteries, in the Caserío de Las Canales, dedicated to the manufacture of decorative ceramics are interesting.
Gastronomy: it is recommended to taste popular "gachasmigas" with "tropezones" and the popular Jallullo, made of flour.
The Sanctuary of Santa Eulalia de Mérida,
patron of Totana, is one of the most popular places in the municipality just outside of the urban boundary and located in a beautiful area of the Espuña Mountain range, 7 kilometres from Totana and 5 kilometres from the Moorish Village of Aledo at 600 metres above sea level. The access is by a beautiful winding road surrounded by pine groves and orchards where stately houses of the last century can be seen.
