The municipality of Alhama of Murcia, occupies a surface area of 311.83 kms2. and is 176 metres above sea level, the population is in excess of 20,000 inhabitants.

The town of Alhama of Murcia is located about thirty kilometres from the capital of the Region and the same distance to the city of Lorca, fifty to Cartagena and thirty from Mula, to the south.

Occupied by the Moors for many years, the town still has traces of that influence, there are historical buildings and memorials to view, including the Castillo.
