Many of those who have already experienced spending some time, or actually living in a wooden building, feel that they are closer to the human soul than houses built from stone and concrete. They say it is “more homely” and a more comforting material to be surrounded by. A timber house, when maintained, will last as long as, if not longer, than a standard built house. Because there is a natural “movement” within the material, they would normally be able to withstand the extremes of weather conditions with ease and are even known to survive a severe earthquake, where a brick building could simply crumble. You will also find you will stay cooler in the summer and remain warmer during the cold of the winter months in comparison to a traditionally built house.
Wooden and Timber-framed houses are becoming very popular here in Spain, and are already widely lived in across the World’s continents, in countries from all extremes of climate, i.e.: Norway & Sweden, Switzerland, Canada, South America, Africa, and Australia.
Our timber-framed houses are most popular amongst those who want a new home that will blend in with the surrounding countryside. They also give you the option to help design your own home. They are generally cheaper, and faster, to build than a concrete structure and use natural and “ecological” materials.
The trees are replaced with new saplings at the earliest opportunity, and the wood remains to be a natural material even after human intervention.
There are a variety of finishes to both internal and external walls of your new home, the standard being a choice of different styles of wood cladding; the other being plasterboard inside and monocapping outside.
The wood finish is more economic, but will need to be maintained over the years, for which we offer a maintenance service.
The mono- capping finish is a more expensive option initially, but is virtually maintenance-free, thereafter.
We work very closely with Spanish Architects specialising in wood and the relevant Technical Colleges and Town Halls to ensure that all is in place with regards to plans, licences and permissions. Wooden / Timber-framed houses require architect drawings submitted to the Town Hall as for a standard built house. The benefits of this are that the house will be added onto the Escritura (Title Deeds), and will also be mortgageable.
We are also in continuous communication with the manufacturer, in Romania. Once the order has been placed, and your house made, they will “build” the framework of the house inside their factory where we will inspect it, before it is delivered.
